Last Saturday we went out to dinner to celebrate our 6
th wedding anniversary. We decided we would not do anything else this year for the anniversary- trips, gifts, etc. - and just go out for a very nice dinner. We spent a lot of time debating restaurants, reviewing menu's and chefs and locations and finally narrowed it down to
The Greenhouse. It was a great space, in a Mews setting, with an excellent chef, in the heart of Mayfair (which is for someone
else's money probably the nicest neighborhood in London).
We had both decided before we got there that we would have the tasting menu so ordering food
was quick. We had hoped they would have a matching wine course but no such luck. Instead we spoke with
Sommelier about wines we could pair with the courses and he made, I think, excellent recommendations.
The meal started with an
amouse that was a beet tube filled with cheese of some sort, and then a very light, very
miniature tomato soup with
mozzarella. We had that with a a glass of
Billecart-Salmon NV Champagne.
Then dinner kicked in:
Devon Crab and Salmon Parfait - The crab was as expected, the salmon parfait was so light and unexpected but with such good flavor. We had Petite
Arvine white wine from Northern Italy with this, and the next course.
Diver caught Scallop - Scallops are delicious, truffle is delicious. Excellent combination.
Pan fried
foie gras with fig - say what you will, I love me some
foie gras. Katherine and I shared a glass of
Molino Moscatel with this.
Grilled
Seabass - Probably the most plain course of the meal, but very well prepared and tasty. With this we switched over to a German
Pinot Noir - Meyer
NaekelAnjou Pigeon - I'm hoping this wasn't caught in Trafalgar Square. Cooked extremely rare and came with
fava beans that were
delicious.
Pinapple sorbet with a white chocolate mousse and basil - The contrast of flavors were refreshing, not too rich.
Chocolate and toffee tart - Right, this was the rich one. The perfect way to wrap up the meal.
Except for the plate of chocolates they gave us after that
After that, we were finally done :)
It was an amazing meal, very well served (so many different people, but they all know exactly where we are in the meal and what we need now). And the American Couple called it a night.

Looking good
