Fab Weekend!
On Friday morning Andy and I headed to the airport on our way to Luxembourg to stay with Louis (Andy's co-worker) and his wife Hilary and baby Oliver. We spent Friday wandering around Lux with Louis, checking out some sites in the city, 2 Christmas Markets and doing a little shopping for the big Thanksgiving dinner happening that evening. We, of course, had some yummy food at the markets, potato pancakes, sausages, hot wine (1 red, 1 white! - none of us had experienced the white hot wine before) for the fellas, hot chocolate for me.
After a bit of touring about we headed back to their place to pick up Oliver from daycare, I got to drive the stroller there - great practice for the future ;) Then we got ready for the party. There were 11 adults and 3 kids, 4 out of the 6 women were pregnant so there was lots of baby chatter and drunk husbands (mine included, don't worry)! All the usual food was at dinner, I was wondering if some would be hard to come by, but there was turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, stuffing, and lots and lots of pie, I believe there were 7 pies in total!
Saturday was a slow starting day, mostly due to 2 of the 4 of us with hangovers. Once we got going we went to a Lux rugby game. We were only there for the 2nd half, but it was lots of fun to watch. The sport is amazing, the guys that play are crazy how they don't seem to fazed about getting hurt. One guy somehow got his finger pointing in a very un-natural position and just ran to the side and had the coach snap it back into place and went on playing. To be fair, he only played for about 5 more minutes before coming out of the game obviously in some sort of pain but still! Then we headed to the International Bazaar held in what I think is a convention center. There were people there selling food and goods from probably about 40 countries from around the world. There was tons of great food, the products and crafts were a bit lacking though.
Sunday we went to Germany to a great Christmas Market. Everyone here says that the German markets are the best and this one did not let us down. There was loads of good things to buy as well as yummy food, more sausages and hot chocolate were had! I was able to pick up a few Christmas decorations that I'm looking forward to having for years to come. After the market we did a bit more exploring of Lux and then headed to the airport.
It was a great weekend, Louis, Hilary and Oliver are great hosts. I learned lots of baby and pregnancy tips from Hilary and it was great to play with Oliver.
